The acutely dyspnoeic patient can be one of the most significant clinical changes that we face in practice, as small animal veterinarians. Determining the cause of dyspnoea in the fewest steps is required to optimise the chance that you patient will survive, but the challenge can be getting the most out of each test and determining what the test results mean.

This presentation will review a sensible approach to dyspnoea in dogs and cats, using the regular tools of practice (clinical exam, radiography, sonography, sampling and your brain!). Tips for optimising the information you get from radiography will be provided, as well as indications and usefulness of newer tests like TFAST.
