From over the fence: What is the future role of vets in extensive livestock systems

Incorporating findings and discussion from previous workshops and a summary of the latest research, this workshop will examine the currency of the potential capacity and challenges of service provision, and consider alternatives to the traditional veterinary pathways for animal health advisory services in extensive grazing livestock businesses in Australia. The workshop will build on work investigating the current relationships and propensity for communication between farmers and vets in regional Australia, examine the current challenges and opportunities, including for training and education of animal health professionals, the industry structure and culture and include discussion of the relevance of recent events relating to FMD and ASF surveillance.  This workshop will provide an opportunity for a facilitated discussion towards a better understanding of the current situation,  future scenarios and work to identify opportunities for the profession.
